pr-ready

/octopus:pr-ready flips a draft pull request to ready for review. It is the other half of pr-open --draft: one command opens work early, one declares it done.

Why promotion is its own command

Requesting a review and being ready for review are different claims, and Octopus keeps them apart. pr-review could plausibly promote the PR on your behalf β€” you asked for a review, so surely you’re ready β€” but that would make an outward-facing state change a side effect of a command whose job is reading a diff. Reviewers would get notified by something you didn’t ask for.

So the promotion is explicit. pr-open --draft opens, you work, pr-ready declares, pr-review reviews.

The PR number is optional

Terminal window
octopus pr-ready # the PR open for the current branch
octopus pr-ready 238 # an explicit PR

With no argument it resolves the PR for the branch you are on, which is how the command is actually used β€” right after the draft you just opened.

Promotion is idempotent

Running it on a PR that is already ready prints a notice and exits successfully. It makes no write to GitHub β€” the mutating gh pr ready call never runs. That matters for chaining: dev-flow ready in a half-finished flow, or a second invocation after you forgot the first, never breaks a sequence.
